yes. if you have installed without changing anything except may be the location of installation, then it also sets up a service that checks for updates and downloads and installs them. You get a notice or prompt.
Mine didn't cause I dislike auto.
I dont know why it would do those in your case. may be older machine ? But still, bandwidth hogging is weird.
Memory hogging happens cause previously browser tabs used to share memory space that contained common code. Nowadays, tab isolation is big thing...a must for security reasons.
