The Last Movie You Watched
The Comeback Trail / 2020 / USA / 5.5 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:Two movie producers who owe money to the mob set up their aging movie star for an insurance scam to try and save themselves. But they wind up getting more than they ever imagined. In debt to the mob and in need of a new money making scheme to save his skin, greedy grind-house film producer, Max Barber, (Robert Deniro) decides to produce a dangerous new film, all for the sake of killing his lead actor in a stunt so he can rake in the insurance money. But when he casts Duke Montana, (Tommy Lee Jones) an aging, washed up movie star as the lead, Max never expects the depressed old drunk to be revitalized by being in front of the camera again. Unable to kill Duke in a basic stunt, Max ups the stakes, putting Duke into ever more dangerous situations. And as Duke survives stunt after stunt, Max unwittingly starts making the best movie of his career. A cross between "Get Shorty" and "The Producers," THE COMEBACK TRAIL is a fun journey through the underbelly of Hollywood. Littered with a cast of unforgettable and outrageous characters, it will have you giggling.

Spent more time just listening to it rather than watching. Most of the time there was nothing interesting, funny or spectacular going on.

The cast is awesome. I mean we have Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Tommy Lee Jones, and Zach Braff. All very well known and successful actors. Sadly not a factor that really improved the rating of the movie.

Sadly the movie wasn't as good as expected and it is reflected in its score and reviews.

@Mashiro  To be honest, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Morgan Freeman and Tommy Lee Jones some times pick movies that aren't that successful (in my opinion at least).  Tommy Lee Jones out of the four is probably the most successful, particularly in the movies I like.  Like US Marshalls, Space Cowboys, Rules of Engagement, Batman Forever.  This guy is really good.  Robert De Niro and Al Pacino may be in darker movies for me or who knows, may select scripts that are just not what I'm interested in.  There are obviously plenty of exceptions like the Godfather series, Al Pacino has been in a few really excellent action movies but mostly in the time frame immediately following the Godfather series.  His most recent movies haven't been talking to me.  Ditto Morgan Freeman.  Both actors are of course excellent actors.  Just the movies that don't really appeal to me.  Compare it with someone like Harrison Ford, Liam Neeson and Mel Gibson, who obviously have been super selective with their film scripts.  I can't recall ever seeing a movie or series I haven't really liked.  Maybe the very odd exception, but mostly I've been able to look from beginning to end.  Whereas in contrast it's happened often that I stopped looking at a movie with Robert de Niro, or Al Pacino, Morgan Freeman and Tommy Lee Jones (his later movies).

Most recently I've watched an old tongue in the cheek classic action Lethal Weapon (1987) series of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover.  Both are very talented actors.  The movies are a bit slap stick, but for me provide plenty of action, with a great sense of down to earth humour.  The interplay between the two actors is awesome.  Mel Gibson of course at his very best. I've been watching the movies from time to time, and even now it's very relaxing entertainment that makes me laugh.  Definitely not boring. I give the series 8/10, the two missing points being the movies are of course older technology.

The Lone Ranger (2013). This is a great movie. I don't know about Johnny Depp's real-life craziness but this guy is a brilliant actor. It's an action-comedy and balances both parts very well. This is the second time I watched it and still could enjoy it. I would give the movie 8.5/10. Maybe it deserves even more.

I watched one of the newest Netflix films called "love and monsters"... It is a nice film... The SFX are great, no avatar level but watchable. The story is dead simple without much turn-over of events. Very few actors but good story-going.

I leave the plot as always but I suggest to don't read it and just jump on your sofa and watch it!
Quote:With the imminent impact of an asteroid (Agatha-616), powers around the globe unified and blew the asteroid with rockets, saving the Earth from total destruction. However, the after-effects of the rockets' chemical fallout, caused cold-blooded animals to mutate into large monsters and kill off 95% of humanity. During the evacuation of Fairfield, Joel Dawson is separated from his girlfriend Aimee but promises to find her. His parents were later killed in the ensuing chaos.

Seven years later, Joel lives in one of many bunkers underground called "colonies", where all survivors but he, have romantically paired up with each other while fighting monsters and seeking supplies. Joel felt left behind as he only performs minor tasks in the colony, often kitchen duty wherein he only talks to a cow and a non-functional robot Mav1s. A giant ant breaches the colony which revealed that Joel suffers from unusual freezing during dangerous situations, thus the reason why he is not allowed to go out with scavenging or hunting runs. Later, Joel expresses to the other survivors that he wants sets off on a quest to reunite with Aimee. This raises concern from the others since Aimee's colony is 85 miles away and will take atleast 7 days, worrying if Joel can make it out alive. However, Joel pursues his plan, claiming that Aimee is the only person who made him happy.

Passing through the suburbs, Joel is attacked by a giant toad-monster but is saved by a stray dog named "Boy". Joel befriends Boy, who later seemingly entrusted a red dress in Joel's safekeeping. Boy follows Joel on his journey, warning him against poisonous berries and other dangers. Joel falls into a nest of worm-monsters called "Sand-Gobblers", when two survivors, Clyde Dutton and Minnow, rescue him. They are heading north to the mountains, where fewer monsters live due to the colder weather and higher elevation. They teach Joel some basic survival skills, and that not all monsters are hostile, demonstrating how "You can always tell in their eyes". They invite Joel to stay with them, but he insists he must find Aimee. As they part ways, Clyde gives Joel a grenade.

Continuing west, Boy becomes trapped by a giant centipede-monster. Joel freezes, but overcomes his fears and eventually saves Boy with his crossbow. Sheltering in an abandoned motel, they meet a functioning Mav1s, which only had 51 minutes of power left. Before her battery dies, Mav1s powers his radio long enough to briefly contact Aimee. Other survivors have reached her colony, promising to lead them to safety. With her remaining battery power, Mav1s shows Joel photographs of his parents and briefly played a song until the battery was completely depleted. Joel buries Mav2s and continues his journey. The next day Joel and Boy are attacked by a Queen Sand-Gobbler which they barely escape. However, Boy inadavertently lured the Queen back when he tried to retrieve the red dress which Joel earlier dropped while running from the Queen. Joel kills the Queen with the grenade. He yells at Boy for putting them in danger, causing Boy to run away. After swimming across a pond, Joel is covered in poisonous leeches and hallucinates, but is rescued before he collapses.

Joel awakes to realize that he reached his destination and finally sees Aimee. She leads a beach colony of elderly survivors who depend on her. He is introduced to the new survivors, Cap and his crew, who operate a yacht and promise to find a safe home for the survivors. As everyone celebrates their imminent departure, Aimee confesses she is glad to see Joel, but has become a different person and is still mourning someone. Joel decides to return to his colony, contacting them on the radio and learning that it has become unsafe and that they too must leave. Cap sends Joel some berries, which he recognizes as poisonous, as warned earlier by Boy. Realizing Cap is not to be trusted, he rushes to warn Aimee but is knocked unconscious.

Joel, Aimee, and the rest of her colony awaken tied-up on the beach. Cap reveals that his group is there to steal supplies and that their yacht is towed by a crab-monster controlled with an electrified chain. Cap sets the crab to feed on the colonists, but Joel and Aimee escape and are able to fight for their lives, and Boy returns to help. Joel has the opportunity to kill the crab, but realizes it is not hostile , remembering Minnow's advice to look into a monster's eyes Joel shoots the electrified chain, freeing it. The crab leaves Joel unharmed and instead kills Cap and his crew, sinking the yacht in the process.

Joel recommends Aimee and her colony head north. They leaves Aimee his notes detailing the monsters and other knowledge he gained on his journey. They share a romantic goodbye kiss, and Aimee promises she will find him. Joel treks all the way back to his colony, and they too decide to head to the mountains. On the radio, Joel inspires other colonies to take to the surface. As everyone heads north, Clyde and Minnow, already in the mountains, wonder if Joel will survive the next journey.

Watched Land of the Lost (2009). It's a decent comedy, nothing Amazing or wining Oscar level. This is one movie they couldn't even make a profit. The budget was like 100 Million USD and the movie made around 68 Million. It even won the Golden Raspberry Awards for Worst Picture and Worst Prequel. It does have kind of cheap feeling when you watch it. I guess I would give it 6/10.

Gangs of New York / 2002 / USA / 7.5 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:In the god-forsaken district of early-1860s Lower Manhattan known as the Five Points, the vicious Nativist, Bill "The Butcher" Cutting, is the supreme overlord of an area riddled with crime, prostitution, theft and murder, as the American Civil War still rages on. Sixteen whole years after the brutal murder of his father from Bill's blood-stained hands, an orphaned Irish-American, Amsterdam Vallon, returns to this melting pot of corruption to avenge his untimely death; however, a lot has changed since then. Who can remember the once-innocent boy and now a young man bent on revenge, who works his way up to the hierarchy of Five Points? Will Amsterdam ever taste the dangerous but sweet fruit of retribution? In 1862, Amsterdam Vallon returns to the Five Points area of New York City seeking revenge against Bill the Butcher, his father's killer.

A movie I have seen a few times on TV but always tuned in way to late at almost the end.

Finally decided to watch it from the beginning to the end once at least.

Firefox / 1982 / USA / 6.0 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:A pilot is sent into the Soviet Union on a mission to steal a prototype jet fighter that can be partially controlled by a neuralink. The Soviets have developed a revolutionary new jet fighter, called "Firefox". Naturally, the British are worried that the jet will be used as a first-strike weapon, as rumors say that the jet is undetectable on radar. They send ex-Vietnam War pilot Mitchell Gant (Clint Eastwood) on a covert mission into the Soviet Union to steal the Firefox.

A movie that was recommended to me by a co-worker. Clint Eastwood movie. Well, the way Russia is pictured in that movie is funny and pretty inaccurate. The way actors speak in Russian is also pretty bad. Well, it's a 1980s movie. Cold war and etc. Cars don't even look that Russian for the most. Same for many things like places, clothes and etc.

Other than that the plot seems interesting. However still lacking. Also the idea of that super plane and such stuff. I mean it's not like it's a really bad movie but it does not picture most of the things properly. Really badly rather. I would therefore also not rate it much better than average.

The Deer Hunter / 1978 / USA / 8.1 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:An in-depth examination of the ways in which the U.S. Vietnam War impacts and disrupts the lives of people in a small industrial town in Pennsylvania. Michael, Steven and Nicky are 3 best friends who enjoy going deer hunting quite often. These men get enlisted to head to Vietnam to fight for their country and celebrate with a farewell party, as well as Steven marrying a pregnant woman named "Angela." After the horrors during the war and edge-grabbing games of Russian Roulette that these men are forced to play, Michael returns home and realizes that his deer hunting outings aren't the same as they used to be, because of the war and he eventually finds out that Steven is handicapped and Nicky hasn't returned from Vietnam, and in response, he heads back to Vietnam to rescue him.

A really great movie about the impacts of the Vietnam war with the U.S. Great cast. While it is a older movie it is a really really good movie!

The Vietnam war and may other wars started by the U.S. are horrible and unnecessary things. They did it to themselves. The U.S. are probably one of the top countries with the most Veterans and many have PTSD and other issues. Despite of being pictured as heros a lot of Veterans are poor and homeless. Many kill themselves due to their mental state / PTSD. They're not the same they have been...

Owning Mahowny / 2003 / USA / 7.1 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:A bank manager with: (a) a gambling problem and (b) access to a multimillion dollar account gets into a messy situation. Based on the story of the largest one-man bank fraud in Canadian history. Dan Mahowny (Philip Seymour Hoffman) was a rising star at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. At twenty-four, he was Assistant Manager of a major branch in the heart of Toronto's financial district. To his colleagues, he was a workaholic. To his customers, he was astute, decisive, and helpful. To his friends, he was a quiet, but humorous man who enjoyed watching sports on television. To his girlfriend, he was shy but engaging. None of them knew the other side of Dan Mahowny, the side that executed the largest single-handed bank fraud in Canadian history, grossing over ten million dollars in eighteen months to feed his gambling obsession.

A movie based on a real event in Toronto, Canada in 1980 - 1982.

Gambling is really a dangerous thing! And if you are a bank manager it is even more so. Money really makes you crazy if you have too much of it and a gambling habit.

I have got finally the chance to watch "Godzilla vs. Kong"... who don't like a huge lizard figihting with a abnormal ape?
I liked the movie but it was not a masterpiece... just a nice movie. I can't say much because there isn't an amazing plot behind the film...

As always I leave the plot from wikipedia:
Quote:Five years after Godzilla defeated King Ghidorah,[c] Kong is monitored by Monarch within a giant dome on Skull Island. Kong is visited by Jia, the last Iwi native and Kong expert Ilene Andrews' adopted daughter, who is deaf and communicates with Kong via sign language.

Bernie Hayes, an employee of Apex Cybernetics and host of a Titan conspiracy theory podcast, extracts data suggesting sinister activities at a Pensacola facility. However, Godzilla suddenly attacks the facility; during the rampage, Bernie stumbles on a massive device. Madison Russell, a fan of Bernie's podcast, enlists her friend Josh to investigate Godzilla's attacks.

Apex CEO Walter Simmons recruits Nathan Lind, former Monarch scientist and Hollow Earth theorist, to guide a search for a power source into the Hollow Earth, the homeworld of the Titans. Nathan is initially hesitant as his brother died in an expedition to the Hollow Earth due to a strong reverse-gravitational effect. He agrees after Walter reveals that Apex has developed HEAVs, specialized crafts able to withstand the pressure exerted by the gravity field.

Nathan meets with Ilene and convinces her to let Kong guide them through the Hollow Earth via an outpost in Antarctica. Nathan, Ilene, and an Apex team led by Walter's daughter Maia board a modified barge escorted by the U.S. Navy that carries a sedated and restrained Kong. Godzilla attacks the convoy and defeats Kong, but retreats after the ships disable their power and trick him into thinking they are destroyed. To avoid alerting Godzilla, Kong is airlifted to the Hollow Earth entrance, and Jia convinces him to enter the tunnel while the team follows him in the HEAVs.

Madison and Josh find Bernie, who joins their investigation. They sneak into the wrecked Apex base, discover a secret facility underground, and are inadvertently locked into an underground monorail transport to Apex headquarters in Hong Kong, where they unwittingly stumble on a test of Mechagodzilla. It is telepathically controlled by Ren Serizawa, the son of the late Ishirō Serizawa,[c] through the neural networks from the skull of a severed Ghidorah head,[c] but is hobbled by its power supply's limitations. Walter intends to harness the Hollow Earth's energy to overcome Mechagodzilla's limitations.

Inside the Hollow Earth, Kong and the team find an ecosystem similar to Skull Island. They discover his species' ancestral throne room, where they find remains of an ancient war with Godzilla's kind and a glowing axe made from another Godzilla's dorsal plates. As they identify the power source, the Apex team sends its signature back to their Hong Kong base despite Ilene's protests. Attracted by Mechagodzilla's activation, Godzilla arrives in Hong Kong, and sensing Kong, he directly drills a shaft to the throne room with his atomic breath. In the ensuing mayhem, Maia and the Apex team attempt to escape but their HEAV is crushed by Kong. Kong, Ilene, Jia, and Nathan ascend to Hong Kong, where Godzilla and Kong battle. Godzilla is initially overpowered by Kong, but Godzilla emerges victorious while Kong loses consciousness.

Madison, Josh, and Bernie are caught by security and taken to Walter. Despite Ren's concerns over the power source's volatility, Walter orders him to activate Mechagodzilla. They lose control of Mechagodzilla, who kills Walter, electrocutes Ren and then attacks Hong Kong. Godzilla and Mechagodzilla battle, but Godzilla is overwhelmed. Nathan revives Kong by destroying the HEAV, and Jia convinces him to help Godzilla. As Mechagodzilla overpowers both Titans, Josh short-circuits Mechagodzilla's controls with Bernie's flask of liquor, momentarily interrupting the mech. Godzilla supercharges Kong's axe with his atomic breath, allowing Kong to destroy Mechagodzilla. Madison, Bernie, and Josh reunite with Mark Russell, while Godzilla and Kong acknowledge each other before the two go their separate ways.

Sometime later, Monarch has established an observation post in the Hollow Earth, where Kong now rules.

Murder in the First / 1995 / USA / 7.3 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:An eager and idealistic young attorney defends an Alcatraz prisoner accused of murdering a fellow inmate. The extenuating circumstances: his client had just spent over three years in solitary confinement. Henri Young stole five dollars from a post office and ended up going to prison - to the most famous, or infamous, prison of them all: Alcatraz. He tried to escape, failed, and spent three years and two months in solitary confinement - in a dungeon, with no light, no heat and no toilet. Milton Glenn, the assistant warden, who was given free reign by his duty-shirking superior, was responsible for Young's treatment. Glenn even took a straight razor and hobbled Young for life. After three years and two months, Young was taken out of solitary confinement and put with the rest of the prisoners. Almost immediately, Young took a spoon and stabbed a fellow prisoner in the neck, killing him. Now, Young is on trial for murder, and if he's convicted he'll go to the gas chamber. An eager and idealistic young attorney, James Stamphill, is given this impossible case, and argues before a shocked courtroom that Young had a co-conspirator. The true murderer, he says, was Alcatraz.

A great movie in my opinion. A really good story and cast with Kevin Bacon and Christian Slater.

This is a classic movie about the injustice in U.S. jails. The main place here is the infamous and well known jail Alcatraz that is located on an island near San Francisco.

Who is the victim? Henri Young, basically still a child, was jailed for stealing 5 USD from a store that was also a post office at that time. He was transfered to Alcatraz for such a minor offence. In there he was abused and treated like a animal and extreme criminal. To quote the movie "They locked him up. They crushed his spirit. ". He has become crazy.

Although the movie says it is based on real events it actually isn't. The events and how the inmate is shown and described are fictional. There was indeed a real Henry Young in Alcatraz but he was a convicted bank robber and murder hence why he was sent to Alcatraz.

More about it here: https://www.alcatrazhistory.com/hyoung.htm

However in general the movie greatly shows of how U.S. jail still work til today. Inmates are treated like animals and locked away without any sign of humanity. And you wonder why they are so crazy inside and afterwards. The U.S. jail and justice system IS MADE to crush you and not to actually defend you or even remotely attempt to resocialize you into society. You are indeed guilty until proven otherwise instead of not guilty instead of proven guilty.

There are however, world wide, quite a number of justice and jail systems even worse than in the U.S. Thinking about Chile, Columbia and etc.

The Mountain Between Us / 2017 / USA / 6.4 out of 10 Rating on IMDb

IMDb Wrote:After their flight is canceled due to stormy weather, neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Bass and photojournalist Alex Martin hire private pilot Walter to get them to Denver for connecting flights to Alex's wedding in New York and Ben's emergency surgery appointment in Baltimore. Walter, who has not filed a flight plan, suffers a fatal stroke mid-flight, and the plane crashes on a mountaintop in the High Uintas Wilderness. Ben, Alex, and Walter's dog survive the crash with various injuries..

I liked this movie. It has a good mix of adventure, drama, and romance. I recommend it.
