Suggestion for an Internet and Web development Sections

(12-23-2019, 06:48 AM)deanhills Wrote: Thank you for the detailed suggestion @fChk.  Let me know whether the end product is OK here.  Where would your last topic on Firefox go?  Can you point out where we should move it to make it more logical for you?

Topic groupings-wise, it should work; the headings and description have to be re-assessed though. The parentheses I've used are just pointers to help you when writing the description.

For the default forum in the New 'Internet & Web Technologies' Section, i.e. the 'Internet & Internet Technology', I would prefer it to be called 'Internet Technologies'. The point is that it should be vague/all-inclusive in its title to serve as a catch-all forum for the Internet related topics.

The Internet is the infrastructure (networks + protocols) upon which a plethora of application protocols are running; the Web being just one of them. Thus, every existing or even not yet conceived application that is/will run on top of the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP stack) can be included in this 'Internet Technologies' Forum. Be it VoIP topic, a torrent topic, Tor topic, DNS, DHCP, Cryptos etc...

Now, If the ongoing changes were to be enacted, I would like to have my 2 (non-suggestions) threads (the Firefox DoH + Going Dark) inside that future 'Internet Technologies' Forum, or whatever name it will have.

Thanks! @deanhills

@fChk.  Technology is all embracing of technologies and in its all embracing it is vague/all-inclusive.  If you go for technologies then they refer to specific technologies, just the opposite of you want with technology.  If you can convince me differently then I'll change it, but when I checked the big picture last night and saw technologies (as suggested by you), it didn't look right.  But it's up to you.

We also need to be careful.  The majority of members need simple topics to guide them in the right direction - me included. Not every one is in your specialist league.  So that's my guiding principle as well.

I've started to work through the "General" section in the Forum and moved some of the topics to our new selection.  I then bumped into OpenVZ vs KVM.  So any suggestions (not only from fChk) how we bring in discussion of VPS technology and configuration topics?  I've added a topic in the VPS discussion section for VPS specific.  Let me know what you think about this.

Also, possibly we could move the VPS Discussion up to under Site Discussion, i.e. second Forum section instead of having it in the bottom? What do you guys think?
Terminal
Thank you to Post4VPS and VirMach for my awesome VPS 9!

Sounds good.. But what about 'Internet & Internet-based Technologies', it kinds of take us back to your first title :-)

I'm aware that it's a pain to rearrange a forum's topic-groupings 4/5 years down-the-road, but this forum really needs it for its own readability's sake, at least IMHO.

I'm on holiday this couple of weeks, so will try to get my threads going on a faster pace, I hope.

Thanks again for your efforts @deanhills .

I've missed to comment on these parts:

I'm all for it; I refrained from suggesting it with the others to not cause any outrage from the active community here :-)

My initial thought was to add a 'Virtualization & System Administration' under the 'Geek World' section, but 'VPS Technology & Configuration' forum under 'VPS Discussion' should meet to same needs. So it's all good from my side.

THumb Up in this too!... VPS hosting is at the core of this community, thus putting its section at the top is kind of obvious/logical... I think.
