Yesterday I talked about Windows 11 and its new minimal requirements such as Secure Boot and TPM 2.0

A lot of people are complaining about this choice... but what do you except?
Microsoft is trying to make a revolution on their OS on both graphical and technology way. All of that is essentially hard to make for older hardware.

An older hardware has such limitations:
  • No secure boot
  • No TPM module (it can be added via CPU FW update, but Intel will not upgrade CPU that has been discontinued)
  • No DirectStorage API: It requires both Windows 11 and a supported GPU card
But if you still want to try out Windows 11 on bare hardware instead of a VM... here you go a guide on how to install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware:

THIS GUIDE HAS BEEN TESTED ON WINDOWS 11 INSIDER PREVIEW. IT IS UNKOWN IF THESE METHOD WILL STILL WORK ON FINAL RELEASE.

Currently there are 2-3 method to successfully install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware.

First of all, we need to get on our hands a ISO of Windows 11... I can't share mine due to security reasons (who will install an OS from a random guy's iso?). I can't neither tell you how to download one because MS doesn't publish any iso for Insiders... BUT iso can be "generated" using UUP.

UUPDump is a website that allow you to create scripts that will download UUP and generate an ISO from them. The usage is very basic and doesn't need much to explain. This link points to the [color=rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.87)]22000.51 x64[/color] build. The iso creation process will take a while depending on your pc performance and internet speed.
If you are not confortable with scripts, look for a ISO on the web from a reliable source.

So, now we got a ISO that will not install the OS on our machine due to Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 limitation. What can we do?

@Mashiro anticipated already one of the methods:
1) REGEDIT way
  • Create the bootable USB with the generated iso
  • During installation, when the limitation screen shows up press SHIFT+F10 and a cmd window will pop-up
  • Now type regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup
  • Create a new key called "LabConfig" and insert the following entries:
    Code:
    BypassTPMCheck=dword:00000001
    BypassSecureBootCheck=dword:00000001
  • Save the changes and you should be able to continue the installation

2) Install.wim swap
  • Get your hands on a Windows 10 ISO
  • Create the bootable USB with the Windows 10 iso
  • Extract Windows 11 iso
  • Replace the install.win from USB "sources" folder with the Windows 11 one

3) Appraiserress.dll downgrade
  • Get your hands on a Windows 10 ISO
  • Create the bootable USB with the Windows 11 iso
  • Extract Windows 10 iso
  • Replace the Appraiserress.dll from USB "sources" folder with the Windows 10 one

Method 1 requires the use of regedit and it must be performed every time we want to install Windows 11. Methods 2 and 3 are "apply-once" workaround that will make your ISO capable of installing Windows 11 on every machine without any manual command input.

For applying method 2 and 3 there is a script developed by a fellow Windows modder that will apply one of them automatically but I will not post it because I still have no permission to post the script on other forums.

Let me know if you knew this methods and if you will use of them!

Did you watch Microsoft Live Event on 24 june? No?
Don't worry, I am here to sum up the essential stuff!

So, on 24 june 2021 Microsoft announced its new OS: Windows 11.

IT IS A TOTAL UI REFRESH, maybe if you disliked Windows 8 attempt to put a new UI you will hate Windows 11 too... but Windows 11 attempts is surely better than Windows 8 one!

Let's talk about the interesting topics:
  • UI refresh: a new UI is planned for Windows 10 too, it is code name Sun Valley and it is the 21H2 update;
  • Integrated Teams: Windows 11 will shift from Skype to Microsoft Teams, with a proper OS-integration, for it's calling/meeting app;
  • DirectStorage API: it is a feature similar to ResizableBar, your game will be able to communicate and use GPU's ram directly;
  • AutoHDR: Windows 11 is trying a proper implementation of HDR!
  • Android Applicaiton: Windows 11 will be able to run Android application! You can download them via Windows Store that is linked to Amazon App Store... it is still unknow if will be possible to sideload apps;
  • Virtual Desktop improvements: Windows 11 will improve your docking life, a new tabs organizer and a "monitor memory" for laptop that uses external monitors;
  • Widget are backs: Windows 11 has it's "relax" window where you can find useful widget. They are not the same as Windows 7 widget!
  • Xbox Game Pass: Windows 11 has Xbox game pass built-in on Xbox app;
  • Free upgrade for Windows 10 users who have a COMPATIBLE DEVICE
  • New minimal requirements: Windows 11 requires Secure Boot and TPM 2.0, two bios settings that can be found only on POST-2015 hardware.
  • A LOT MORE TO BE ANNOUNCED
As today, 28 june, Windows 11 insider program has been started, I am currently downloading the insider build and I am going to switch soon.

So, are you going to upgrade to windows 11? I am going to update at 100%
I am so exicited!

Hello all,
Here is a little site that makes my life easier. It's a snippet code generator that comes in handy if you are switching to a new IDE. I was switching from sublime to vs code and converting the input snippets are really a pain. This site just makes it look so easy. You can thank Pawel on his Twitter.

For a long time, I used these low-price headsets of A4Tech, Logitech, and Genius bands. These cost around 5 USD and the sound quality's very good. These would last a year or 2 before those wires wear out or get broken. Last year I was surprised to found out there is not a single branded headset for less than 20 USD. Those I used to buy for 5 USD have gone up to 15-20 USD. I didn't expect that kind of price hike. Plus I never had much success with those unbranded headsets. Either those were not steady products or sound quality is a lot below avarage.

SO what Headsets do you guys use for Desktop /Laptops and their prices?

Also, I like to hear about which types of Handfree sets are you guys using and prices.

I'm curious about what brand phones our members are using as well as what their dream phone would be.  If you are interested to participate in this discussion can you please answer the following questions:

1. Brand and model of your primary cell phone that you use every day. And Android/iOS Version - if available.
2. Brand and model of a secondary cell phone if you are using more than one cell phone.  And Android/iOS version if available.
3. Brand and model of your dream phone and preferred Android/iOS

How do you like your primary cell phone?  Is it a phone you would want to recommend to others, or a phone that you have only because you can afford to have it or can't afford to have what you really want?

1. My primary cell phone is Sony Xperia X (2016).  It has 3 GB RAM and 16 GB storage space.  When I purchased it one of my requirements was a nice screen and camera, which is why I was interested in Sony.  I've owned many Sony products before, and it has superior screen and camera technology.  I've been actively using my Sony Xperia X since 2018.  I love this phone.  It's not too big, not too small.  It handles well.  Easy to charge, and it charges reasonably fast.  I charge it approx every second/third day depending on whether I've been using Google searches.

[Image: sony-xperia-xa.jpg]

I use my primary cell phone mostly as a phone and doing some minor searches.  I also use WhatsApp as the goto media where I live.  I'm worried however as I'm still on an older version of Android - 6.  Initially in 2018 when I wanted to upgrade the Android version, it turned out too difficult to do - which is the only fault I find with the phone - not so easy to upgrade.  I probably could do it via my desktop with the Xperia assistant, but then I'm worried the system may slow down with a higher version of Android - why fiddle with a system that is working well?  Because of this limitation I'm very careful with how I use the phone.  I ignore phone numbers that I don't know what their source is, as well as text messages. I also don't have e-mails active preferring to work with desktop only.

2. My secondary cell phone is a second hand Samsung Galaxy S7.  It's not for me in the same class as my Xperia (although it wins in most of the categories of specs), but still a great phone.  4GB RAM and 32 GB storage.  Android 6.

I use this phone for travel only.  Battery charges faster than Sony Xperia.  Camera is great.  But for me my Xperia just has a tad better overall experience.

I guess most people who have phones from 2016 would have upgraded to a new phone a while ago.  I'm not thinking of upgrading my Xperia yet.  Battery feels as strong as when I first started to use the phone.  Ditto Samsung Galaxy S7.

[Image: samsung-galaxy-s7--.jpg]

I also still have three Nokia 1100 dinosaurs.  I decided to take them out of my box a few days ago and charge them just to see whether they're still working.  Batteries are still as good as when they were purchased almost 8 years ago.  I got a temp SIM to test and battery lasts as long as before.  These phones just last forever!  I'm presently testing my Nokia 1100 with a local SIM.  Quite a novel phone "lite" experience.

[Image: no1100.gif]

3. I'm still old-fashioned with preferring my desktop computer for computer needs.  For a dream phone where money would not be an object, it would probably be a new Sony Xperia with brilliant screen, camera and up to date specs.  Latest Android.  Even though I really like Android 6 and 7, particularly through use of my Samsung Galaxy Tablet. One thing that irks me with all software is the more up to date the version, the bulkier and complicated it becomes.  For that reason it would be nice to have an Android Lite version in my dream phone with less Google presence.

This was interesting for me.  A top public health specialist in South Africa during the plenary address at an HIV Conference suggested that the well known South African variant of Covid 19, Beta (501Y.V2), could have originated from a patient whose immunity was suppressed because of HIV.

Quote:"   [...] for all we know the original 501Y.V2 variant may have come from an immunosuppressed patient with HIV”.

Source: https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/...nequality/

Now that opens limitless possibilities.  And could also explain why different communities may have different responses to the same Covid 19 vaccine? And how it only takes one person to start it all.

Quote:Karim’s thesis was reinforced by a later scientific presentation by Professor Tulio de Oliveira, who described “the possibility that immune-compromised individuals (with HIV being the biggest population in Africa) could become the source of SARS-CoV-2 and variant evolution”.

He deduced that it was “most likely that virus evolution was driven by selective pressure from an impaired antibody response (due to HIV)”.

De Oliveria added that this “highlights the possibility that immune compromised individuals (with HIV being the biggest cause of immunosuppression in Africa) could become the source of SARS-CoV-2 and variant evolution.”

More info about the science of two epidemics colliding (called a syndemic) appears below:

Quote:'This is a syndemic,' said Dr. Jonathan Li, using a term that describes the confluence of two epidemics with the potential to worsen outcomes for both.

I kind of noticed that ever since the forum downtime last Saturday, the forums stats seems not being updated as they used to. I'm talking specifically about:
> threads Views (not updated any more) and
> Quality Credits (not reset at the end of the day)

And, may be, there are more stuff that I'm not paying attention to that has the same issue.. But the admin should know about!

There must be some script that's not running as scheduled any more that's behind the issues..

Last Saturday, during the downtime, I had a feeling that Post4VPS.com was suffering from a high CPU usage that made the web server timing out resulting in Cloudflare generating 522 Errors. May be it's that script's cron job that's to blame for that...

Anyway, I'm posting this as a heads-up!

Hi all! It's been a little bit since I've done a in-depth post, but I am back and I've got hopefully a great writeup for Amazon Web Services (AWS). This is going to be a little bit of a different writeup because of how modular the components for AWS are so I will start with development and end with deployment and scalability. Hopefully this is a great resource for those looking at AWS deployment!

Development:
So the task at hand was to create a new website for work, that was scalable and would be able to host an active Community, eCommerce and Support Services. We began by creating our EC2 which is the server itself. With Amazon EC2 servers, you have a large variety of OSs to select from, starting at Amazon Linux 2 all the way to macOS and Windows. I selected a Linux Ubuntu EC2, as that is what I am the most familiar with on the Linux side and Amazon Linux 2 uses an entirely different package manager and firewall that I've researched and is a little more difficult to deploy and Apache or NGINX server. The next part of our Development Stack was to select storage requirements, networking components, and modular elements such as off server storage, cdn, load balancers etc. On our server, we allocated 30gb to host Wordpress, Apache, PHP 8.0.4 with modules and your basic odds and ends to get the Wordpress Framework up and running. Knowing that we will have customers all around the globe, I created an S3 attachment which in simple terms is a storage block that we are offloading all of our images, videos and other uploadable content. We attached a CDN on the S3, that way we get great SEO management and customers are able to visit our website and have content delivered as quickly and responsibly as possible. With an Amazon S3, you can use their native CDN service Cloud Front, or you can implement CDNs like CloudFlare as well. With the S3, we also have the website backing up to a separate bucket so if things crash, corrupt, or we need to continue to scale we will EASILY be able to scale up our server needs and redeploy with little to no downtime. The next step of our development process here in the next few weeks is to add on a load balancer, which will work with the CDN to help cache and serve assets so that the main server is not taking a total beating all the time, and add on RDS which is external database block storage, so we will be able to keep our database separate from the main server just for additional security and scalability options.

Deployment:
As we neared closer to launch day, it was super simple to port and migrate our domains and secure the server for live use. We had a few issues with Images caching between the CDN and the live version, but things quickly resolved themselves once GoDaddy made the official DNS transfer from our old host to our EC2 deployment. We also used Yoast SEO paired with SEM Rush and our SEO scoring with google is already up 25% from where we are and the organic traffic we are collecting is already paying for itself just optimizing our website, services and frameworks.

Scalability:
If you are looking at scalable development AWS is honestly an amazing route for you to consider especially if you are looking at eCommerce or Community Driven content. We will be able to easily upgrade our services, storage, hardware without a second of down time. There is a cost associated with all of this, but we went from spending about $600 USD a month to spending about $350-400 USD a month, so it is not cheap, but having the modular scalability is going to make it so simple for our business to scale as we continue to grow. I would love to show off specs, but since this is my job I can't share this information, but I can provide a TL;DR.

TLDR:

Deployment: 7/10 - The AWS console is a little intimidating at first, but they provide amazing documentation to get your EC2, IP, Storage and more created and associated together.

Scalability: 10/10 - Everything is separate from the storage to the IP, so you can easily upgrade and plug and play with little to no downtime!

Security: 10/10 - Amazon has thought of everything when it comes to security, so in my case only myself and my counterpart can access our SSH and console and it takes both of us to unlock or reset a password.

Price: 5/10 - Services is not the cheapest, by any means, but you get so much for what you pay for. If you can overlook the cost and/or are using this for clients that have a significant budget, this will be honestly an amazing route for you to investigate.

Overall: 8/10 - I highly recommend this solution, with some exceptions for smaller developers.

I'm curious. Are there members who have used Ivermectin or know of friends or family who have had experience with using Ivermectin for Covid 19?

Here is some basic info about Ivermectin:
https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-u...t-covid-19

In summary it's a drug that is used by vets for treating animals for parasitic and similar diseases.  Most Governments in the world have warned their citizens to be careful to use it, and only under prescription from their doctor.  The argument is that the drug has been created for use with animals, and animals are different from humans.  Humans would need a different preparation of Ivermectin that has been specially prepared for humans.

There is a strong movement in South Africa who believes Ivermectin can be very effective.
