How effective are vaccines for stopping the spread of Covid 19 globally?
(04-18-2021, 12:14 AM)fChk Wrote: For the unaware -and I've said this many times in my posts in this thread- O/AZ, J&J and Sputnik V are all adenovirus-based vaccines and -as things look currently- that might be the issue triggering those rare instances of SARS-CoV-2 VITT syndrome cases.

Stay safe!
Thanks for the detailed feedback @fChk.  I don't think Sputnik has been a consideration in South Africa "publicly".  I'm sure the Public Health authorities must have taken a look at all available alternatives including Sputnik, but hasn't mentioned Sputnik as a possibility yet.  Right now the only three vaccines have been O/AZ, J&J and Phizer.  O/AZ is out.  J&J was used as an experiment and then purchased in bulk. We haven't seen Phizer yet, but it is on order.

Looks like the Public Health Authority in South Africa has recommended to Government to resume J&J asap.  So possibly this can happen even before CDC in US allows resumption of J&J in the US.  So far there hasn't been one J&J vaccination found in South Africa with issues out of the almost 300,000 that have been vaccinated.  Maybe that was lucky though, as all that you said about anti bodies is true.  I just think however that South Africa really doesn't have a choice, since it's more or less put all of its eggs in one basket, and cannot afford to go another route. We're lucky just yet as the Covid 19 cases have dipped for a few months now. But since winter is about to start, a third wave of Covid 19 is expected to start any time now.  With possibly even new variants.  So the Government can't afford to delay J&J any longer.

@fChk  BTW what do you think of this?  Phizer trying to get the Government of South Africa to put up sovereign assets guaranteeing an indemnity against the cost of any future legal cases. I find it absolutely shocking.  Particularly shocking also is that they want complete confidentiality preventing public from being informed when issues with the vaccine arise. I wonder with this kind of zero ethics, why African Governments who have the know-how - such as the case with South Africa - just manufacture their own vaccine. Instead of following the rules. This sounds almost like a form of neo-colonization by large pharma conglomerates.

Quote:In other negotiations, Pfizer went further. The company required some Latin American governments to put up sovereign assets, including federal bank reserves, embassy buildings or military bases — as a guarantee against indemnifying the cost of future legal cases. This was reported by the Bureau in February and picked up by more than 25 media organisations worldwide.

Quote:Experts have raised concerns that Pfizer and some other big pharma companies have demanded complete confidentiality during the recent vaccine negotiations, which would prevent the public from knowing about issues including indemnity protection and price. In South Africa, there are fears that any such secrecy clauses could undo public trust built up by years of anti-corruption work.
