COVID-19 affecting education in countries
#21
(07-16-2020, 06:06 AM)sagher Wrote: A Good news from my country. COVID-19 is going to die and death ratio is very less through last week. infected ratio which is rising more then 6000 people /day  is now dramatically less now and just 2000+ recorded throughout last week. and patients recovery ratio is about double increase and the final report the recovery ratio is double from infected ration.
Govt announced to open education department from 15th of September. but decision is still relay on current situation. if the infected ratio is gradually decrease then all schools and universities should be open from 15th September 2020.

I pray from ALLAH almighty protect and clean world from this pandemic.

In which country are you living?
In India it seems problematic now,  some places are under triple lock down, I don't know even I am infected with corona virus. The symptoms seems to be mild, but rand tests giving positive results. About 5 km far from my home three persons have tested positive while  one in random test. We had a few patients earlier, but now people have returned back from their job sites. That made it quick to spread. Some people are not following guidelines.
I wonder if it possible to open school this year.

Thank you  Sweet

So, The lockdown has been lifted up in Pakistan and yesterday i went outside to buy some grocery and literally people was not wearing anything at all, There are still 17,000 cases and literally lots of unknown cases which are not being registered or such. Supermarkets have removed the mask rule, Everyone can go anywhere without masks, Sanitizing gates are also removed. I'm wondering if it's controlled but still lockdown should be there for a time being until literally no cases is there
It have been said the schools and colleges will open from Sept 15, I'm not sure literally what will happen next. Literally everyone was outside like everything was fine and normal!

I hear you @sAmI  This is what happens when people aren't treated like responsible adults, and instead have to have rules and regulations imposed on them to "protect" them.  So with the rules they haven't been taught to think for themselves, but to just obey without any question.  So when the lockdown is lifted, the obey attitude interprets this as Covid 19 is over - no more rules. This happened every where in the world where lockdowns had been implemented.  Like birds in a cage set free.

This is what I admire about Sweden.  The Government didn't impose any lockdown on its citizens, assuming that they would listen to the guidelines that were given to them, which were social distancing in the first place, and if they wish, face masks. They were given guidelines of how to take care of themselves instead of draconian lockdown regulations imposed on them. It has been proven that the most important prevention for Corona Virus is to keep social distances from others - at least 6 ft or 2 meters minimum.  Face masks may be OK to wear to prevent droplets from yourself to get to others, but in a way it's actually a "false" protection, as people think that wearing masks are protecting them.  Which they are not.  Social distancing is much much more important than a face mask.

This last weekend I watched an interview on TV with the Chief Swedish Public Health Specialist.  He suggested that the most common sense prevention is to maintain a decent space between you and others.  Don't go to social gatherings, don't go to small places that aren't well ventilated and where there are plenty of people milling about. Don't use public transport that isn't properly ventilated.  Sweden also had the Corona Virus cases like every one else.  The death rate was high, in comparison with other countries, but then this could have something to do with the fact that it has a very large percentage of older people.  Total cases were more or less the same as in other countries.   So Sweden for me is a living example of that the expensive lockdowns didn't really make that much of a difference, except maybe give Governments some time to prepare, which quite a large number of Governments turned out to be very incompetent with.

I've just looked at stats from Euronews that make an interesting comparison based on total of deaths per million people.  Pakistan is very low compared with other countries. Belgium is one of the highest.

In Malaysia, the examinations for collages are in online. For my college, our lecturers will post the questions in form of Google Form and ask us to complete it in certain duration. Just what I concerned is even online learning is the only way to learn under the pandemic however it is clearly seen that the understanding of students are no as good as direct teaching. Hope the pandemic end soon.

Surely online learning is not so effective as compared to the traditional face-to-face learning.

Online examinations are, in particularly, useless because it is hard to prevent students searching for answers online during the examinations. Smile

Agreed, First we have to face issues of internet and other things some people do not even have internet in their areas and even 3G and 4G! I'm actually weak at maths, Online classes have no been useful to me i use to take tuitions as well which atleast helped me someway but still online classes are just not so effective
For online examinations, Everyone can use solved past papers and it wont be that much harder to find answers and scoring exams would be useless anyway.

Confused How on earth can a Government be made responsible for any one failing an exam? I agree that some Governments aren't very good at implementing opening and closing of schools, and maybe that could contribute to a problem with exams. But at all Universities, there are usually Exam Committees that evaluate the results of the exams after they have been marked, and analyze those results. If there have been issues with students failing due specifically to Corona Virus or any other external issue, then that issue would have been compensated for in the marks or a decision would have been made to get the students to resit for the exam. Also, most Universities have a system that if students have had specific problems while they were writing the exam, they are able to communicate these, and if they are well founded, could lead to being investigated, and the student given a chance to resit and rewrite the exam, or get an oral exam instead.

@deanhills the reason i said they are responsible because their decisions effecting our grades. and also people here dont get a second chance. i am not sure why maybe budget. maybe the school dont want but the point is no matter how much i tried no one heard my voice and decided to help me. school is aware of my situation and many other students. and they even tested me to see if i need special support like extra time, someone helping me reading and etc. the test result was positive. i need to get some help to pass the tests. but all the final exams i did on the COVID times i never got any of the help no matter how much noise and mess i made no one cared and said it will be taken care of. this is just one example why i am saying that school and government is responsible for it
