Which domain registrar is the cheapest for RENEWAL?

Thanks for the Godaddy Discount club tip @xdude.  Don't know why - think it's just a blind kind of dislike - I seem to not like Godaddy as much.  Maybe I need to revisit my account and think more with the head like you obviously do.  Makes sense that a large domain registrar like Godaddy will be in a better position to cut prices especially for new domains - so if one wants a domain maybe just for a year - this may be the right place to go.

For longer term, I'll research Name Silo. I'd probably need to figure out what the transfer costs will be as well.

Wow - looks as though Name Silo transfers are easy and may also be less expensive than I thought:
https://www.namesilo.com/transfer.php

I really like Name Silo for transfers as looks like for the TLDs and some non-TLDs the transfer fee will be applied for one year renewal.  You get an extra year for the domain so in effect the transfer fee is free.  Also the transfer fees aren't that high.  Sounds like a great deal!

OK now I have to figure out how to get an authorization code from Namecheap - long winding process, but at least all of the important preparation steps are covered in this tutorial:

Here is a more detailed tutorial from Namecheap:

Getting Authorization code shouldn't be hard. Many Registrars just send it to the email address you used for sign up. Some just show it in your account. Anyway if you this is first time using NameSilo then use the promo code CheapDo99 which will give u a 1 usd discount. It worked for registrations and Im sure it works for first time transfers too.

Thank you for the code @xdude.  I've been with NameSilo for a while though.  Got one domain with them.  What I like about NameSilo, that Namecheap also has is the ability to create two private name servers with one IP.  Also, I find NameSilo User Panel much more intuitive and easier to navigate and find things than with Namecheap.  All one has to do is double click through things in NameSilo, whereas with Namecheap one has to search for links on a page, like where the Advanced DNS link is, and then fumble through creating the name servers.  I think 2019 is going to be a brutal year for completely pruning all of my domains.  I have 24 domains at last count a week ago, 16 of which with Namecheap, 1 with NameSilo, 3 with Domain Electroniq (not sure what's going on with them as reseller disappeared and I can only renew with a link the overall Registrar gave me and not transfer - may loose these eventually), 4 free ones with Freenom dot.tk. I may convert some of the paid to free with Freenom.  Freenom is still one of the most reliable and best quality registrars I've had (in spite of the negative feedback).  Last week when I had to change name servers in two dot.tk sites and two Namecheap, the DNS of the dot.tk propagated faster.  Go figure!  Crazy

Think Freenom has changed their management or something or at least they have learned a lesson from negative feedback. I have had domains for last 3 years and only reason I lost those because I have forgotten their renewal dates.

Ah if you have an account already and made a purchase then promo code wont work. It works only on first sale I think.

They're gotten better, but even if you lost the domain due to forgetting to renew and it's marked as "paid" domain for a while, just open a ticket (don't email them, they never reply) and they will either add it back to the account for a month (which you'll need to renew) or they'll mark it as a free domain which you can register again.  I know the ticket link is hidden but it's just WHMCS so the following link should work and get a ticket opened for you: https://my.freenom.com/submitticket.php

Well they have become good but not that good. haha It's lots easier to register that domain again than contact tham. Usually you can do without any problem at Freenom. Plus I don't think they send those automated warning makes when free domains are about to expire. I haven't seen any.

I don't know why but Freenom's automated warnings work for me.

I have just renewed some of my free domains on Freenom a few days ago. They do send warning emails before my free domains expire. Never miss any one of them.

WOW!  I haven't ever received a Freenom renewal notification - maybe they've changed their system for the free domains?  That was the only part that put me off as now and then I missed renewing my dot.tk domain in time.  I've been lucky then because in almost all of the cases I'd forgotten, except one, I was able to get the free domain back when I reregistered it.  I have three dot.tk domains due for renewal in November so I better watch out to see whether I receive renewal notices from Freenom.

When they used to be bad they never bothered to send renewal mails But I think when they reorganized the whole thing probbly started sending mails too. Now I wonder if these had gone to Spam folder. I'm using Google so it's possible. @deanhills which is your mail provider for mail had used for Freenom ?

@xdude  My Mail Provider for Freenom is Yahoo.  I guess I should have a look at the spam folder.  Maybe it's in there.  Going to check it now. Big Grin
