It depends on how you define "real cash".
In the past, real cash was backed by gold.
But now, cash is actually backed by nothing real. And governments are printing money every year to cover their debts.
So, your cash value actually depreciates over time.
To compare in a fair way, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin are also backed by nothing real.
But at least no government can print extra Bitcoins when they want to. Bitcoin has a fixed supply by design.
So, some people believe that Bitcoin will be more valuable than cash. That is why they are willing to exchange cash for Bitcoins.
You do not have to agree with them though.
